<DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>This data contains sidewalks across York Region, with a focus on those along regional roads. Data from the local municipalities was provided where available with defined use restrictions in some cases. In areas where local municipal data was unavailable or inappropriate, York Region generated its own line work. Several sources were used including orthophotography, maps and information used previously by roads and infrastructure planning branches, and excel spreadsheets, dwgs or pdfs provided by the municipalities. Data generated by York Region was compared to the 2007 orthophotography but data provided by the municipalities was not.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
Sidewalk data can be utilized in different ways as reference information or as an integral part of a network or study. Sidewalks may participate in multi-modal transportation networks, indicate access factors in services including transit, illustrate areas for potential recreational uses or be used in health and wellness related proximity queries.

Unscheduled update to sidewalks occured. Sidewalk information was received from Vaughan. Features from Vaughan Sidewalks were added to trpSidwalk by using the Load Data... tool. The following fields were mapped to ensure attributes were populated in the proper fields in trpSidewalk trpSidewalk: Sidewalk MUNI_ID = SW_ID WIDTH_M = SW_WIDTH MATERIAL = WALK_MAT TYPE = SW_TYPE Material and type data were only populated with a single letter for the attributes therefore these letter were modified to conform to existing data (i.e. C = CONCRETE).
In areas where local municipal data was unavailable or inappropriate, the sidewalks along regional roads were digitized. Several source of information were used to assist in this process including: orthophotography, maps, and information used previously by roads and infrastructure planning branches, and Excel spreadsheets, dwgs or pdfs provided by the municipalities. No attribute data was captured for this linework. Where local municipal data was available the data was combined and certain attributes of interest such as width, material, type and their own unique id was retained. Vaughan and Newmarket provided sidewalks across the entire municipality while Richmond Hill provided only those along regional roads.

An FME process was created and run to amalgamate the local municipal data and the data manually created by the Region into one feature class. This process also resolved any existing subtypes and domains to esnure all attributes were as coherent as possible. Only the attributes of interest were included in the combined data.

The existing line work for Markham, King, Whitchurch-Stouffville, Georgina and Aurora were deleted from trpSidewalk. Features from First Base Solutions data (0937YORK0002_sidewalks) were cut and pasted into trpSidewalk. The existing sidewalks features in Richmond Hill were deleted Features from RH Sidewalks were added to trpSidwalk by using the Load Data... tool. The following fields were mapped to ensure attributes were populated in the proper fields in trpSidewalk trpSidewalk RH Sidewalk MUNI_ID = INV_ID WIDTH_M = WIDTH MATERIAL = MATERIAL. Attributes from First Base Solutions and Richmond Hill sidwalks were made to be upper case to conform to existing data. Ensured sidewalks that crossed over municipal boundary were snapped together. Ensured sidewalks were split into two segments so they do not cross over municipal boundaries.
